COB technology means that the various LED parts, including the circuit, fluorescent layer and communication wire, are all made in the printed circuit. In SMD technology, various components are prefabricated and soldered to the printed circuit board. The decision to choose any of these two types of LEDs depends on the intended use. Normally, SMDs are used for modules with wide light distribution and COBs are used for modules with concentrated light distribution.
In the COB chip, the semiconductor chip is directly attached to the main board using a high-temperature thermal adhesive, and the connection to the PCB is established by wire. This wire is made of gold and has a micrometer thickness, which establishes electrical connection. Finally, all parts are covered with a layer to protect against damage and contamination. To create this layer, they use the so-called barrier and filling method, in this way, first a barrier is stretched over the parts, then a sticky substance is used to cover the surface of the parts, and then the middle space is filled with a liquid. which gradually hardens, they fill.
The design of SMDs is such that their board will have a very low thickness. SMDs are directly fixed on the board with glue. Their electrical connection is established by a soldered piece. These parts follow the general conditions of general lighting equipment such as light quality standards and heat sink (heat exchange part). Using this method will require a larger heatsink.
